Who are we?
The Renewable Heritage Trust is
about old buildings and new energy. It is a Building Preservation
Trust that seeks to breathe new life into some of our forgotten heritage
by adapting it to generate clean energy. "The idea of power
from water is one of the earliest of man's bright ideas and there are
literally thousands of old mill sites that could be exploited for small
scale hydro-electric projects"
[The Guardian, 28 Feb 2004]
Even in the four years
since the Trust began there has been a marked shift in awareness of the
importance of renewable energy to help combat global climate change; at
the same time, there are still hundreds of beautiful old buildings being
left to decay across the UK because ostensibly they no longer serve any
useful purpose. It is the mission of the Renewable Heritage Trust
to do our own small part to safeguard these valuable pieces of our
national history by making them self-sustaining for the future. |
